  • The Historica-Dominion Institute:
    • 2011 Great Questions of Canada Essay Competition for high school students. Contest deadline is 30 June 2011. Winner receives a $2000 cash prize, has their essay published on the website, and wins a trip to Ottawa for the award ceremonies. See the GCQ Homepage for contest rules and other details.

  • Bissett, Manitoba 100th Anniversary of the Discovery of Gold, August 12th - 14th, 2011:
    • This summer Bissett, Manitoba celebrates the discovery of gold in the area a century ago. Prospector E.A. Pelletier, a former member of the Royal North West Mounted Police, is credited with staking the first gold claim on the shores of Rice Lake, on March 6th, 1911. He was aided by numerous local guides, prospectors, and trappers, most notably Arthur Quesnel and Duncan Twohearts.
