No. 411137, 1st University Co., PPCLI, Attestation Papers. Diary References: “Hooked up with [H.] Howard and [J. B.] Mawdsley,” 2:27 Oct ’15; “Jim Mawdsley was … the only casualty,” 2:29 Dec ’15. According to Hodder-Williams, Pte. J. B. Mawdsley was wounded 29 December 1915 and struck off strength 4 January 1916. He subsequently served as a lieutenant in the R.A.F.
