Smith, George Malcolm, enlisted at Montreal, Quebec, originally of Burlington, Ontario. Occupation: university lecturer. Military Service: Lieutenant, Captain, M.C., 2nd University Co., PPCLI, Attestation Papers. Diary Reference: “Tonight Lt. [G. M.] Smith asked me to his machine gun outfit. Promised to try,” 4:17 Oct ’16. Hodder-Williams, 89, adds that Captain Smith joined the PPCLI in the field, 18 June 1916. He was seconded with H. Q. Heavy Artillery, 1st Corps, from Dec. 1916. He was struck off strength 9 January 1919.
