Elmer Stewart Giles

Giles, Elmer Stewart, enlisted at Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, formerly of Lachute, Quebec. Occupation: student. Military Service: Private, Reg. No. McGill 31, 2nd University Co., PPCLI, Attestation Papers. Possible Diary Reference: “Moved into trenches … .Am with Giles and [H.] Ellison,” 2:7 Feb ’16; “In supports … . with Giles and [H.] Ellison again,” 2:15 Feb ’16. There is a possibility that Elmer S. Giles, a member of the 2nd University Company, was in the dugout with Frank Whiting on 7 and 15 Feb 1916, although it seems more likely it was Pte. A. Giles. Hodder-Williams did no include E.S. Giles in his Nominal roll of PPCLI soldiers.
