Hess, Ransom Howard, Chesterville, Dundas Co., Ontario. Occupation: Farmer. Military Service: Private, Reg. No. 639461, 156th Bn., transferred to PPCLI. Attestation Papers. Diary Reference: “While in one place we were shelled by whizz-bangs during which poor [M.W.F.] Lewis was killed and [R.H.] Hess seriously wounded,” 6:13 Aug ’18. According to Hodder-Williams, Pte. Hess died of wounds received near Parvillers on 12 August 1918.
