Medals/Honours: Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath (KCB), Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George (KCMG), Member of the Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O). Occupation: British Army Officer [later Governor-General of Canada]. Military Career: Commander in Chief, Canadian Army Corps, Personnel Record. Diary Reference: “Commander Bynge [Byng] (however he spells it) is coming to inspect us,” 3:29 Jul ’16; “Corps. Com. [Sir Julian H. C. Byng] inspected us this morning. Very gruelling affair.” 3:30 [31] July 1916.
